SiteVisit 02 : Wymering Manor House

I had learnt about the idea of critical thinking last Wednesday in the creative thinking class.I am conscious that there are many components to critical thinking, such as the necessity for students to be able to use relevant evidence, relate theory to practice, and understand information using a framework. I also gained knowledge regarding the meaning of reflection. In reflection, we must evaluate the reading and conversation process and its five stages, which include individual reading, beginning point, discussing ideas, discussing sources, and analyzing what you have learnt. I am happy and grateful to be attending this session since it has provided me with a wealth of knowledge.

We returned to Wymering Manor House for a site tour on Friday and Miss Belinda gave us a brief overview of what we would be doing today.Initially, our task was to proceed upstairs to complete the tasks. I am grateful that our lecturer gave us this opportunity to work with Sebastian Hegarty. Then, Sebastian Hegarty , our instructor gave us an explanation of how the materials affect the second floor.I found that different surface of material may make different types of sounds.Clark(2018) mentioned that the higher density materials—like concrete or solid plywood—tend to reflect sound more than they absorb it. Lower density materials, like cork or melamine foam, have a tendency to absorb more sound. Furthermore, compared to thinner materials, thicker materials often absorb a larger spectrum of sound frequencies.

We were given the task of working in pairs and trying to whisper our partner's pulse (heartbeat),and try to identify them.Next, we must close our eyes, draw and feel according with our pulse, and use our dominant hand to place on our neck to collect it.The idea behind the blindfold is that nothing makes sense, thus we must base our artistic creations on sound and pulse rather than sight.I've learned from this lesson that the purpose of the activity is to increase our awareness of the surrounding area.

Following that, Miss Belinda gives us an overview of the second task we have to finish by today. Then, We are required to utilize abstract language to describe the home's environment, our feelings while we are in each area, and how we express ourselves inside in the room . Subsequently, we must take out the alphabets from the magazine we brought from home in order to set the mood for the area.In a nutshell, I thought this activity was appealing since it required us to establish the atmosphere of the space using various types of graphics.
